The first step is to recognise there is a problem for which you might consider seeking professional help.

The purpose of the initial (one-off) consultation, is to explore the issues in more depth and to see if therapy could benefit you. This will also give you an opportunity to ask any questions and to see if you feel comfortable with the particular therapist.
