Craniosacral Therapy: Babies
By Jo Foot: Your family Craniosacral therapist
Craniosacral Therapy (Cranio) can be particularly helpful for treating new-borns and infants.
Birth, especially in complicated or complex cases, can result in pressure which can create restrictions and tensions through the body.
Many childhood conditions stem from the physical forces and shock of birth.
Births can be intense.
Even straight forward births can create patterns of shock or tension in a baby’s body.
Whether from natural, assisted or a c-section birth, the two main effects of birth trauma are due to the physical forces exerted on the baby during the birth, and “shock” effects of the birth, especially if it was in an emergency or a c-section.
These tensions can be particularly felt in the nervous system, the cranial nerves that control sucking, swallowing, jaw mobility and the digestive system. Cranio works by gently easing those tensions and helping the baby’s body settle.
By using a light touch to release restrictions, Cranio can, incredibly gently, support calming the nervous system, improving fluid flow, balancing muscular tension and can support overall wellbeing.
Shock and tension in the body can show up in babies in numerous ways such as:
- colic
- reflux
- poor sleep
- restlessness
- irritability
- constipation and other digestive issues
- torticollis (head tilt or neck twist)
- feeding difficulties
A relaxed, comfortable baby can feed more easily, rest more deeply and feel calmer in their bodies.
Craniosacral Therapy can help to build a healthy foundation from which your baby can grow into a well-balanced, settled, and contented child. Cranio can help support healthy development of body, mind, and nervous system from the very beginning.
If you feel your baby may benefit from support, you are welcome to get in touch to find out more or book an appointment.
