Psychotropic Medication and Psychotherapy

To medicate or not to medicate: Integrating psychotropic drugs and psychotherapy

In this half-day training, Dr Adrian Hayes will introduce the broad categories of medication used commonly in mental health services including:

  • their uses and how they work
  • their effects and side effects

We will discuss together the effects of medication on engagement in psychotherapy and the role a
therapist can have on exploring a client’s relationship with medication.

We will also touch on the broader relationship between private therapists and NHS mental health teams.

The workshop will include a mix of didactic teaching, handouts, and plenty of time for questions/answers and discussion.

This half-day training will help therapists and health professionals to:

  • be informed on the broad categories of psychotropic medications used in mental health services;
  • understand how they work, their uses, effects and side-effects;
  • build confidence to explore their clients’ relationship with medication and to ask appropriate questions;
  • gain insight into the relationship between private therapists and NHS mental health teams

Plenty of time for Q&A.

THIS EVENT WILL BE RECORDED * (see below)
